6 DepEd Terms Teachers Need To Know

DepEd Teacher
Teacher's Quest for Knowledge
If you are a newbie teacher that has been recently hired by the largest bureaucracy of the Philippine government, you might have met some terms that you are quite unfamiliar with. As a member of the nation's teaching force, you definitely need to know some of the DepEd must-know terms. Familiarize yourself with these six:

LRMDS. Learning Resources Management and Development System (LRMDS) comprises four integrated sub-systems designed to support increased distribution and access to learning, teaching and professional development resources at the Region, Division and School/Cluster levels of DepED, as defined the LRMDS portal.

In simple terms, LRMDS is an online resource where teachers can obtain learning and teaching resources. Teachers can also publish their own learning and teaching materials subject to guidelines set by the Quality Assurance Team. According to Mrs. Lalice Joy J. Arquntillo, a Filipino Head Teacher, "LRMDS is a big help for teachers in their daily lessons."

E-Class Record. The long days are over for teachers when it comes to the computation of grades. E-class records are templates created by DepEd to assist teachers in their quarterly obligations of submitting grades.

Rosella Abling, an EsP teacher from Iloilo City, said "As a teacher who has to prepare grades for 8 sections, the E-class record serves as a time-saver. All I have to do is encode the scores and the E-class template automatically solves the grades."

This is further supported by Richel Uy, a Filipino Grade 8 teacher, "As a Filipino teacher, I do not need to create formulas for Excel. I can just input the scores into the three components of the E-class. I can even have more time for my kids because of this big help from DepEd."

DLL. Daily Lesson Log is a tool for logging daily lessons. A report  states that DLL is "an official record of activities, instruction and learning experiences written in a systematic way."

IPCRF. Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form is a tool as to what teachers have done for the year. It measures the actual performance based on the target goals.

Basic Salary. Money does make the world go round. Teachers, even though they are in the service sector, need to live. Teachers are paid the basic salary (as of  January 9, 2018) of P20, 179.00. This is equivalent to Salary Grade 11.

5 Ways to Achieve Your Plans For 2018

Set goals for 2018
Bye 2017. Hello 2018. 2017 might have been a tough year for most of us. Or not. Whatever the case may be, it would be great to have a fruitful 2018, right?

So here are some steps on how to achieve plans for 2018.

Reflect on 2017. There is this popular adage that says, “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards." We might not be able to control the outcome of the events that occurred the past year, but we could try controlling the happenings of this year. If we evaluate our experiences and check what worked or did not work, then we can proceed to better planning for the present year.

In John Maxwell's book  The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: Live Them and Reach Your Potential, he elaborates on how a person can grow based on his evaluation of his strengths and weaknesses.

Know your why.  It is true that commitment to your plan for 2018 is the main thing. However, it is better to pair this plan with your why. Determining your why will motivate you in keeping up despite the obstacles and challenges that you may encounter. Definitely, your why will be your guide in reaching for those goals.

List your goals. If you desire to achieve your plans for 2018, you must list down your goals. Writing your goals lifts the feeling of abstraction and it makes them real. You must have a goal using the SMART acronym --- S for Specific, M for Measurable, A for Attainable, R for Relevant. and T for Time-bounded.

Write action steps. You must break down your goals by creating action steps. It is similar to a simple step-by-step procedure for achieving your goal. You can have a daily to-do-list, weekly plans, and monthly plans to support your general goal.

Set up a tracking system to check your implementation. In determining whether you have done the steps in your specific goals, you have to monitor these things. You can use Google Spreadsheets to track your success. It is possible that you still like everything in paper. You can definitely use a planner for 2018.

Bonus:

I definitely recommend reading at least one book a month for your personal growth and development.
Here are books to read that are great.

1. The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John Maxwell
2. Born to Win: Find Your Success by Zig Ziglar
3. No Excuses: The Power of Self-Discipline by Brian Tracy

Hope you learn from this blog on how to achieve your plans for 2018.

See you on the next blog :)

Seven Productive Ways Teachers Can Do This Summer

With April 12 as the official last day of school for SY 2016-2017, DepEd teachers often have more free time compared to any profession. With June 5, 2017 as the unofficial first day of class for SY 2017-2018, teachers can spend their time in productive ways this summer. Here are some of them:

Choose your travel destination. Teachers are travelers. There are many travel destinations that you can choose from this summer. You can opt to go to outside of the country or just travel within the Philippines. Teachers cannot travel outside the Philippines during the school year. Thus, it would be great to spend your summer traveling abroad.

Get a summer job. It is a great opportunity for teachers to make ends meet by getting a summer job. There are tutorial centers all over the Philippines that offer summer classes. With your experience and credentials, you can apply as a summer teacher for subjects that you already teach during the school year. If you are a techie, you can apply for online jobs such as virtual assistant, content writer, or a data entry specialist.

Learn something new. Just because it is summer time does not mean that you should have an idle mind. You can find a non-academic skill that you can learn during summer. You can learn how to cook, learn a new language, or learn computer programming (depends on how academic this is for you). There are online courses offered by TESDA that are for free. You can even obtain short-term grants for learning a new language that is offered by TESDA.

Plan a special family bonding time. It is important to maintain healthy relationships with people. This is more so when it comes to family. You can plan with your spouse for simple family trips. You can even have staycations where you just stay right at home, yet create activities inside your lovely abode. Make sure that you show appreciation to your partner for the time that you spend for those parent-teacher conferences.

Attend a financial literacy seminar. As much as the 3Rs is important to learners, teachers must also be financially literate. There are many free seminars that are being offered in various parts of the Philippines. You can join a stock market seminar, insurance, network marketing, freelancing, and others. You might find attending these seminars your pathway towards financial freedom.

Write an action research. You might say this portion is like it is going overboard. However, with the recent IPCRF of DepEd teachers, even Teachers I to 3 have a component that includes writing action researches. You can try applying for the BERF program of DepEd. By the way, the second call-up of research proposals is this coming July 2017. You can check DepEd’s site for more details.

Find the love of your life. Haha! It is said that there are more single individuals in the teaching profession compared to other fields of endeavor (Probably because of the large number of teachers compared to other jobs). Who knows? You might not be part of those who are meant for single blessedness. You might find the love of your life this summer. Keep those eyes and your heart open. Haha! Kidding aside, just enjoy your life whether you are married, single, complicated, or undetermined.

With the sweltering heat of the sun this summer, hope you can have at least one of the ways mentioned in this article.

See you on the next blog, teacher!

Top Reasons Why I Started Inspiring Pinoy Teachers Blog

Teaching for more than ten years has brought me more experiences that are unique in my daily walk as a human being. Its roles, challenges, heartaches, as well as rewards make it a profession worth writing about. Thus, I felt that I needed to share my perspectives as a teacher.

As my first post for this nth blog that I have created, I would like to share the top reasons why I started Inspiring Pinoy Teachers Blog.

It is a a unique endeavor. Creating a blog that suits my career as a teacher makes me feel that I can obtain a unique experience. Teachers often have this routine of preparing lesson plans, writing formative, reflective, and summative exams, checking tests, counselling with advisory students, preparing forms, and others. Thus, I find creating this blog a unique experience as well as a break from the ‘monotony’ of teaching.

I want to connect with other teachers. It is a nice feeling to connect with a group of people who are in the same profession. With more than 600,000 DepEd teachers as of 2010, it would be great to collaborate with teachers all over the Philippines.

I want to inspire teachers. Teaching is a challenging profession as we deal with young minds that are the future leaders of this generation. As all professions do have, teachers have our own sets of challenges that we have to face. Thus, I started this blog so I can inspire teachers through blog posts that are meant to inspire as well as empower mentors.

I love teaching and writing. There are really days when we feel like teaching as the most difficult of all professions. However, there are also days when we feel like it is the best choice that we ever had. These daily experiences will be put into writing. I want to combine my teaching experiences with my passion for blogging and writing.

I consider it fun. Who does not want fun? I consider creating my own blog specifically for Pinoy teachers as fun. It would be fun thinking about what article I need to post that would resonate with the rest of my colleagues.

These are just some of the reasons why I started this blog. Hope to see you on the next blog post.
